Mapped: Pig and Poultry Farming in Northern Ireland
‘Mapped’ demonstrates the scale, spread and impact of factory farmed chickens and pigs in Northern Ireland. We mapped pollution permits and planning applications to create detailed maps of pig and poultry farms, and tracked intensive livestock unit growth between 1990 to 2025. Our analysis also quantified the industry’s nutrient pollution, as well as its likely spread around the UK’s largest lake, Lough Neagh. For the first time, we reveal and map the likely supply chains of the dominant poultry meat, egg and pig agribusinesses in Northern Ireland.
